Overview
Imagine flitting through the jungle’s canopy, at a height of over 100 feet, while beneath you the mists rise and the rainforest slowly whirrs into life. This is what you’ll experience with the Dragonfly, Mashpi’s new gossamer-light cable-car system, which extends for well over a mile through the magical greenery of one of the most bio-diverse spots on earth.
The Dragonfly is just one feature that makes Mashpi Lodge more than just a luxury hotel. When you visit, you’ll also marvel at its minimalist construction, panoramic glass windows, bird-watching terraces, and viewing platforms that soar above the treetops—all elements designed to make the line between humans and nature vanish. The result: an eco-lodge that’s a luxury cocoon amidst the clouds.
Mashpi is located some three hours from Quito, in the Chocó Bio-Region, which recently was made into a protected reserve by Ecuador’s government. Howler monkeys, tree frogs, over 400 species of birds: these will be your neighbors when you wake every morning to the chirps and smells of the forest. This means Mashpi isn’t just a weekend getaway: it’s a total-immersion experience where learning about nature leads to rejuvenation of the spirit.
