Overview

With its coveted North Serengeti location close to the Mara River in the Kogtende area, Mara Mara Tented Lodge is an excellent choice for safari-goers hoping to witness the Great Migration. From the lodge, it’s just a short drive to the river to see the anticipated crossing that happens around June each year, depending on regional rainfall. The clean-lined, modern camp has a traditional African aesthetic and a touch of luxury. Within the romantic, laidback atmosphere, guests can enjoy superb game viewing year-round, including big cats, crocodiles and wild dogs.

Tents

Under the cover of shade-bearing trees, the lodge consists of 20 walk-in sleek, canvas tents with river views, as well as four bungalows. Each ensuite tent has a flush toilet, basin and shower, king or twin beds and on-demand lighting, thanks to the camp’s solar power and a back-up generator. Rugs warm up the wooden floors and a cozy indoor seating area invites reflective moments. Each tent has a shaded wooden deck furnished with chairs and a table.

Amenities

The camp is divided into north and south sections, both of which have access to the Main House, with its lounges, restaurant, viewing deck and swimming pool. WiFi allows one to catch up with life at home or share photos after an exciting game drive.

Meals are served in the dining area in the Main House or on the outdoor, riverview terrace, starting with an early pre-game drive breakfast, continuing with a hearty lunch upon return and, later, tea before the afternoon game drive and a three-course dinner aftwards.

Game drives are the main focus here, early in the morning and again in the late afternoon. Knowledgeable local guides home in on Serengeti wildlife where it has recently been seen, including lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and wild dog. The birdwatching in the area is excellent. For several months of the year, the Great Migration is the main event, but one can expect a good amount of wildlife throughout the year.
