Overview

For those seeking a sophisticated and peaceful refuge in the mountains, with easy access to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Kitela Lodge fits the bill. With its colonial-style cottages, serene gardens, coffee plantation and working farm, the lodge exudes the exclusivity of a traditional country villa and is the epitome of African elegance.

Rooms

Kitela Lodge offers 20 chalet-type, ensuite bedrooms, all with a private terrace or balcony overlooking the gardens and/or coffee plantation. The ample and comfortable suites each have mosquito netting-draped beds for two to three guests, a fan to cool the air, refreshing mineral water and, in some rooms, a cozy fireplace. The family room consists of two rooms with a connecting door and sleeps four to five.

Amenities

Despite its beautiful remote setting, Kitela Lodge offers guests modern amenities, including WiFi and 24-hour electricity. All drinks are included in the stay.

Guests may gather in the main building, situated in the middle of the lodge grounds and housing a restaurant, lounge and large terrace with sweeping views of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Meals at the lodge restaurant feature market-style choices that highlight farm-grown produce. Additional facilities include a swimming pool, massage cabin and souvenir shop.

It’s easy to get out into the surrounding countryside for game drives into the crater, guided walks in the vegetable gardens, tours of local coffee plantations and visits to Maasai villages. The lodge combines well with other accommodations when visiting the Serengeti and Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks.
