Overview

Embracing traditional East African hospitality and its roots in the surrounding land, Gibb’s Farm is a historic, working farm and coffee plantation on the outer slopes of Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater. The lodge was founded as a coffee plantation in the 1920s and continues to serve as a peaceful haven for those exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara National Park and Lake Eyasi in the Great Rift Valley.

Rooms

Guests awaken to the sound of birdcall and the scent of freshly roasted coffee grown right on the farm grounds. Accommodation includes 17 refurbished, one-bedroom cottages and two larger farmhouses. Each has a distinct theme founded on an element of East Africa and celebrated through hand-selected local artwork and curated furnishings.

The one-bedroom cottages feature twin, queen or king-size beds, a private terrace, a living area, an ensuite bathroom, an outdoor shower and a garden or valley view. Each is unique, such as the Ngorongoro Cottage, which faces the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, less than 40 feet away, and the rebuilt Zamani Cottage, on the site of the last existing guest room built by founders Margaret and James Gibb.

Families and friends traveling together enjoy the two-bedroom Bustani and Deutsches farmhouses, each sleeping up to 4 adults or 2 adults and 4 children.

Designed to immerse guests in the inner workings of a Tanzania farm and plantation, Gibb’s Farm offers the chance to join the harvest in the vegetable garden, learn about the farm’s composting and sustainability minded practices, go cycling, milk cows, feed pigs, collect eggs, tour Tloma village, head out on a safari day trip and more.
