Mbweha Camp

Mbweha Camp, Lake Nakuru, Kenya

Overview

Nestled against the southern border of Lake Nakuru National Park in the Great Rift Valley, Mbweha Camp is a tiny gem within the private, 6,400-acre Congreve Conservancy.  The camp’s location is in the heart of the larger Soysambu Conservancy, a World Heritage Site and Ramsar Site (a wetland site designated of international importance especially due to its waterfowl habitat).  This is also an important bird area, home to a great variety of flora and fauna, including 10 percent of the global population of the endangered colossus monkey.  Lesser and greater flamingo frequent nearby Lake Elementaita, which is also a breeding ground for the great white pelican.

Guests not only feel the splendor of the destination but are part of the camp’s commitment to this special landscape.  The ambience is so serene that one feels worlds apart from Nairobi the moment they arrive, despite the city being just a few hours away.

Tents

Ten large lava-stone cottages with thatched roofs are enclosed by natural fencing of Euphorbia candelabra, yellow-barked acacia, and other indigenous trees. The cottages contain twin or double beds, and the two family cottages offer a queen bed and two twin beds. The cottages feature hot water and star baths.

Amenities

Here on the outskirts of a national park, the camp offers access to walking, mountain biking, day and night game drives, day trips into Nakuru National Park, guided hiking at “Delamere’s Nose,” guided and unescorted bike rides, visits to the Kariandusi prehistoric site, Menengai Crater and Hyrax Hill, game drives in Soysambu, visits to the Lake Elementaita hot springs, and camel and horseback rides.

The camp boasts a spacious, open-sided dining and lounge area to maximize views during dinner.  Private bush meals can be arranged, as well as picnic lunches and sundowners.  Dining in one’s guest cottage can also be arranged.

WiFi, 240V/50Hz charging facilities in the lounge, and spa services are available to all guests.
