Since temperatures are broadly constant throughout the year, at 75-87°F (24-31°C), the best time to visit Kenya depends on exactly what you want from your trip. The absence of rain makes June through October a popular time to organize a safari, and coincides with the arrival of the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Maasai Mara. Although beach stays on the crisp white sands of Kenya’s Indian Ocean coastline are a possibility year-round, the best time to soak up the sun on Diani Beach or on the Lamu archipelago is a second dry season in January and February.
Wet weather (the long rains) dominates April and May, with lesser rains (the short rains) also occurring in November and December. However, traveling to Kenya during the short rains does have several advantages. Not only are November and December fantastic for birding, but a dramatic lushness takes over the country’s national parks, the air is clearer for photography, and you’ll have a much more exclusive experience on game drives due to the reduced number of travelers.
The best places to visit in Kenya are Amboseli National Park, Laikipia Plateau, Masai Mara National Reserve, Meru National Park, Mombasa, Nairobi, Tsavo East National Park, and Tsavo West National Park.
A national park is an area set aside and run by a national government whereas a game reserve (aka game park or wildlife park) is a large area of land where wild animals live safely or are hunted in a controlled way for sport. If hunting is prohibited, then a game reserve may be classified as a nature reserve.

The time zone in Kenya is UTC+3. The country observes Eastern Africa Time (EAT) all year. There are no daylight savings time clock changes.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website provides recommended and/or required vaccinations for each country. For Kenya, it recommends that you should be up-to-date with routine vaccines such as Chickenpox (Varicella), Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis, Flu (Influenza), Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR), Polio, and Shingles. It also recommends that you get vaccinated for COVID-19, Cholera, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Typhoid, and that you speak to your doctor about prescription medicine to prevent Malaria. Consider Rabies vaccination if you will be around dogs or wildlife. Yellow fever vaccination is required for travelers arriving from countries with risk for yellow fever virus transmission and recommended for travelers to most of the country.
