Kruger Shalati

Kruger Shalati, Kruger NP, South Africa

Overview

Perhaps the most anticipated and exciting new accommodation in Kruger National Park, Kruger Shalati: The Train on the Bridge is no ordinary hotel. Permanently parked on the historic Selati Bridge over the Sabie River, Kruger Shalati sits where the train would originally remain overnight when the first visits to the iconic park were allowed in the early 1920s. Today’s guests are treated to deeply visceral, immersive stays in the refurbished train, which meets the highest level of luxury while never overpowering the breathtaking natural splendor of its surroundings.

Rooms

There’s a certain suspension of disbelief that must take place to truly appreciate this “suspended” stay. Kruger Shalati’s 31 opulent rooms, consisting of 24 Train Carriage Suites and 7 Bridge House Suites, offer a one-of-a-adventure, ideal for trips of a lifetime or for the discerning traveler seeking a momentous experience.

The Carriage Suites are located on the Train on the Bridge high above the riverbanks. These suites are specially glass-walled to allow for infinite views along the length of the Sabie River. Suite stylings are a celebration of African design and local art and crafting skills. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed in the Carriage Suites.

The seven, elegantly decorated Bridge House Suites offer their own remarkable views of the river from beside the bridge. One of these seven rooms is the exclusive honeymoon suite; other rooms may be interconnected for families.

Amenities

Both on and off the bridge, Kruger Shalati embodies a sense of relaxation and a meaningful connection with nature that early 20th-century visitors would have experienced in the same spot. The arrival lounge, reception and dining areas, and two of three swimming pools are next to the bridge, while an eye-catching, overhanging pool with a viewing deck is located on the bridge – an undeniably decadent place to relax while watching for Big 5 wildlife and birds and gazing at the river below. Game drives allow guests to get even closer to the wildlife and are overseen by professional rangers eager to share their knowledge and safari stories. At day’s end, or as an alternative to wildlife adventures, the property offers indulgent massages, facials, foot rituals, and couple’s treatments.

Accommodation, meals at the Bridge House restaurant, teas and coffees, daily soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, two game drives daily, and roundtrip airport transfers are included in the Kruger Shalati rates.
