The best time to visit Greece is during the late spring in the months of May and June, and again during the fall, in the months of September and October.
The primary reason for this is the fact that temperatures are warm but not overly hot, with maximums of around 75°F. This means whether you aim to relax on a gorgeous Greek island beach, or explore landmarks such as the Acropolis in Athens or Temple of Apollo in Delphi, you won’t find temperatures overbearing.
There is the added benefit of a reduced number of travelers, since these months sit outside the main school vacation periods in North America and Europe, plus the possibility of catching Greece’s wildflower season in the spring. For those contemplating water sports, sea temperatures are higher in fall than in the spring, and range from 73-81°F.
Peak season is during July and August, when it can be hard to find accommodation, and beaches tend to be crowded with local and international vacationers. Many resorts, particularly on the Greek islands, close entirely over the winter months, limiting options for a getaway in this period of the year.
