Overview
Looking for a lodging where the owners treat you like family when you come down for breakfast in the morning? How about one where twilight walks take you to frog ponds and waterfalls? At the Hotel Belmar, you’ll find all this, plus luscious native plants, a tropical herb garden, and views of the Pacific in the distance—all in one of Monteverde’s truly privileged locations.
Hotel Belmar was founded in 1985 by Pedro Belmar and his wife Vera Zeledon. Modeled on the chalet guesthouses in the Austrian Tyrol, it was one of the pioneers of eco-friendly tourism in the Monteverde area, garnering awards for its five levels of sustainable practices. Today, six years after a thorough updating, the hotel’s gorgeous wood paneling and open bathrooms continue to set the standard for comfort in the area—while also promoting stewardship of the delicate ecosystem around it.
