Overview
Convenient to majestic Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, the acclaimed Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is the epitome of the African experience and the flagship property of Africa Albida. The thatch-and-timber lodge faces the sunset, seeing guests out each day as they gaze across pristine wilderness to the horizon. From the lodge, which emulates a large, open-plan treehouse, guests have a view of a wildlife-rich waterhole that attracts elephants, buffalo, kudu and more throughout the day.
Rooms
Despite having 72 rooms, which is more than most Africa lodges offer, the Victoria Safari Lodge doesn’t feel like a standard hotel. Guests chose from three types of room: Lodge Standard Rooms, Lodge Waterhole Facing Rooms and Lodge Waterhole Facing Suites. Each comfortable, smartly appointed guest room and suite features dark wood furnishings and high beam-and-thatch ceilings that exude a warmth and sense of place. Boldly colorful paintings and arresting black-and-white photography complement the neutral décor. Rooms have a private, furnished balcony, mosquito netting around four-poster beds, air conditioning, tea- and coffee-making facilities, hairdryers, mini bars, safes, international plugs, complimentary WiFi and a telephone. The bathrooms have large rainfall showers.
The mini bars in the Lodge Standard and Lodge Waterhole Facing Rooms are stocked upon request. Those in the Lodge Waterhole Facing Suites are complimentary and restocked daily with local beer, house wine, soft drinks and bottled water.
Amenities
The central area of the lodge contains the award-winning MaKuwa-Kuwa restaurant, which offers a large buffet for breakfast, light lunches and locally inspired dinners with items ranging from madras crocodile to goat cheese mousse.
The more casual Buffalo Bar is next to the two-tiered swimming pool and a fitness center. The lodge also hosts a nightly dinner and drum show in the boma gathering space, serving braai (barbecue) such as warthog steaks and impala. Room service is available between 6:30 AM and 10 PM for meals and 24 hours for beverages.
The main building contains a spa, TV room and internet lounge. Guests are encouraged to gather during the day for talks with guides and for the Vulture Culture Experience, where one can watch vultures and raptors being fed and learn about the efforts to conserve the birds.
A courtesy hourly shuttle bus service is available to take guests to the town center, the crafts market and the Victoria Falls rainforest.
