Overview
Unfettered by the more rigorous strictures of the Kenyan national parks and in a class of its own, Sweetwaters Serena Camp is an oasis of calm around a waterhole in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Within awe-inspiring natural beauty, guests experience uncompromising service, up-close encounters with the Big Five, sophisticated tent accommodations, locally sourced dining, excellent wellness facilities, and an impressive array of activities, from day and night game drives to meeting the last two northern female white rhinos, Najin and Fatu.
Tents
Set in two wings, Sweetwaters Serena Camp’s 56 stylishly appointed, thatched-roof tents feature solid floors, canvas interiors, electricity, an ensuite bathroom with hot and cold showers, flushing WCs, free WiFi, a coffee/tea making station, and plush bathrobes and slippers. Some of the tents are on raised platforms with private balconies; the rest include private verandas, all with safari chairs and tables. Evening hot water bottles are provided to ward off any chill in the air.
Amenities
Guests are spoiled for choice of activity at Sweetwaters Serena Camp. Meet the lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, and leopards of one of the diverse wildlife regions of Kenya. Help monitor Laikipia lions or meet Poco, a 1980 Burundi-born male chimpanzee, as well as his friends Poco, Akeela, Socrates, and others at the Chimpanzee Sancutuary. Plant trees, play board games, paint, try archery, take a guided bird walk, have breakfast or sundowners at the marsh, and go on camel and horseback rides.
The Masai wellness center offers custom consultation with a professional aesthetician who can identify body care concerns and start guests on a transformative journey. Rituals and body ceremony treatments begin with an African foot ritual.
The Rhino Room is open for flavourful, locally sourced breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Start the day with a plentiful buffet-style breakfast, or order a full English breakfast, in keeping with safari tradition. Lunch is also served as a buffet, with fresh meats, dairy items and produce; vegetarian options are always available. Table d’hôte dinner menus feature a salad buffet, a soup, an entrée, dessert, cheese, and biscuits, and fine Kenyan tea or coffee.
Guests are invited to settle in at the Water Hole Bar beside a roaring fire and toast a successful day with a cold local beer or a glass of wine or spirits. Open 24 hours a day, the warm and inviting bar showcases stunning views of the water, enabling guests to gaze out at the abundant wildlife while enjoying a drink.
