Kenai Riverside Lodge

Overview

Tucked alongside the upper Kenai River, surrounded by the snow-capped Kenai Mountains, the Kenai Riverside Lodge is a restful retreat celebrating the natural grandeur and outdoor pursuits of Alaska. With its ideal balance of comfortable cabin accommodations, home-cooked meals and array of activities, the original log lodge and 16 cabins are ideal for those seeking wilderness respite and fresh-air exhilaration. An all-inclusive experience takes away any stress of decision making. The Lodge is ideally located near Chugach National Forest and the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, making day adventures a breeze. While remote, the Lodge is on the road system, so it’s easy to get into the town of Cooper Landing for a taste of local life.

Rooms

Newly remodeled cabins in quiet wooded areas each feature a front porch, two double beds and a private bathroom. Cabins with three beds are available. While there is no cable TV or internet service, activity comes in the form of wild swimming in the river, hiking, fishing, relaxing in the wood-fired sauna, playing volleyball or just watching the fish jump in the turquoise river.

Amenities

The Lodge staff happily arranges day trips for fishing, including the upper, middle and lower stretches of the Kenai River (many lodges in the area fish only one end of the river). They can also set up fishing trips to Resurrection Bay for silvers, halibut, lingcod and rockfish. The Lodge maintains a fleet of eight boats, each of which holds no more than four guests, so crowding isn’t an issue. They’ll also prep, vacuum-pack, freeze and ship home catches. Scenic float and rafting trips are also available along the Kenai and on the mild class II+ rapids of the Kenai River Canyon. Guides are specialists in their field and attend to every detail of the guest experience, from touring the lodge to coordinating and leading activities.

Meals are served family-style; with advance notice, the kitchen can cater to dietary restrictions. The staff will also pack lunches for guests who are out on excursions during the day. After dinner, guests are invited to complimentary evening naturalist programs.
